Yamaha 1200ZZ Super Tenere

Image
Fuel economy is where you would expect for a big adventure bike, it seems to easily get 16 to 17 KPL in serious dirt situations and if ridden on highways for fuel economy I believe 19 to 23 KPL is very achievable, the km per litre read-out on the dashboard does often get into the 24 km plus per litre readings, but I have never followed through for long enough to get the best out of it. I'm sure in the hands of a really sensible and patient rider the bike would be capable of awesome KPL readings. The bike was a bit of a surprise package because even though it is in the BMW 1200GS class, it still felt surprisingly light and nimble to throw around in reasonably tight off-road situations, this is obviously because Yamaha have put a lot of thought into having a low centre of gravity. On our long-term demo XT1200, all we have done to improve the ergonomics is to remove the foot peg rubbers which unveals an absolutely top quality set of off-road foot pegs that are not only strong b...

Comparing the Suzuki GSX-R1000 and the Yamaha YZF-R1

Image
The purchase of a motorbike can be a time consuming and very involved process. One of the main reasons that this is true is because of the high number of manufacturers that all promise to have the best available bike on the market for your purchase. Two of the top manufacturers in the industry today for producing motorbikes are Yamaha and Suzuki. Both of these companies produce dependable, high quality motorcycles and motorbikes that have gained the interest of enthusiasts around the world for many years. The Suzuki GSX-R1000 is one of Suzuki's leading and more popular models. Two of the reasons for this are because this machine has loads of torque and a very powerful engine. This means that the bike will be able to accelerate quickly off the line. A combination of simple on board functions and a light weight body makes this motorbike very easy to handle and maneuver around corners. The Suzuki GSX-R1000 has a larger 4.8 gallon fuel tank which allows you to hold more fuel for i...

The Honda VF750F

Image
The Honda VF750F Honda has always been at the cutting edge of motorcycle design. Ever since the launch of the ground breaking CB750 in 1969, Honda have often led the way in motorcycle innovation. 1983 saw the launch of the sports 750 F with its radical V4 engine which has resulted in its domination of this particular niche today. Under had already produced the VF750S, a cruiser in 1982, but it was the 750 F that captured the bike riding fraternity's imagination. What was revolutionary about this machine was its liquid cooled 90° V4 engine which produced what was then an astonishing 86 bhp. This meant that the bike covered a standing quarter quicker than all its rivals, and also that Honda had managed to produce a new V4 engine that lived up to all the theories by producing a quite superb mid range. And that was just the engine. A lot of research and development had been put into the half fairing, which gave the rider a remarkable amount of protection, and the all round d...

All New KTM 350 SXF

Image
All New KTM 350 SXF There have been many rumors going around that the Austrian-based company, KTM, has been testing out a new 350cc motocross weapon. Well for once, the rumors were true, and KTM recently announced it like they weren't hiding anything. The reason they are building a 350cc production bike is because they wanted a bike that had the power close to a 450cc motocross bike, but the weight and handling to that of a 250F. The 2011 350 SXF is an all new bike from the ground up. It has a new 350cc engine, a new frame, fuel-injection, and new-to-KTM linkage rear-suspension! The bike also has electric start for those lazy riders out there. It also seems to have a spot to put a kick starter, but there isn't one currently on the bike. It is said to be released to the public this summer (2010). The price may be high, but it will most likely be worth it for the amount of work KTM has put into this bike. This project-bike-no-more has been in the works since ...

Yamaha FZ6 - First Impressions

Image
I purchased my very first Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle 3 weeks back. It is a brand new 2008. Since then, I've been able to do some riding and find out what this bike has got. Some background... I've owned two Yamaha bikes prior to purchasing one. They were both Yamaha R6 sport bikes. These R6s were both FAST... VERY fast. And, wouldn't you know, I like to go fast. This issue was, though, that they were not at all comfortable for longer trips. You sit laying over the gas tank with hands and arms at an strange angle when holding onto the handlebars. One of the criteria I set forth when contemplating a new motorcycle, and eventually the Yamaha FZ6, was comfort. The other was power and speed. What I encountered in the FZ6 was a much more straight up riding position (FAR more comfortable for both rider and passenger) and a spunky R6 motor. Yamaha FZ6 One major distinction, other than the two points I mentioned above, is that the Yamaha FZ6 lacks fairings on the sides to co...

Yamaha R25 – Massive Success Or Disappointment?

Image
Yamaha R25 Hurray everyone! The Yamaha R25 has been finally launched in Indonesia. This is the first time ever a concept was turned into a production model so soon. The R25 is here with a twin-cylinder engine producing 36 PS of power and 22 Nm of torque. With a kerb weight of 166 kgs, it is 6 kgs lighter than its chief competitor, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 but the green machine has more cubic capacity, more torque and more power too. The R25 is aimed against the Ninja 300 in many ways and the Honda CBR300R can simply not match it. When we start considering the facts, the Yamaha R25 has the same type of chassis, suspension, tyres as few bikes in the segment (Honda CBR300R and Kawasaki Ninja 300). Yamaha seems to be so impressed with their latest offering that they are proudly calling it the baby “M1″. Baby M1? Are you serious? A bike which does not have a perimeter frame, no pro-link suspension, no aluminium swing arm, no upside down forks is being called as a MotoGP inspired motorcy...

The new version of Yamaha R1

DT50 カスタム While we are still waiting for our Yamaha to reveal new small sport bike to us reached an interesting information related to the brand of Hamamatsu. The Japanese have recently protected names “R1S” and “R1M” which will supposedly be used to its new superbike. What is first comes to my mind is how Yamaha will offer several varieties of speeders YZF-R1 ">Earlier this month, the public have become available patent documents earlier this year around the world to protect Yamaha. They reveal how the Japanese are planning several variants of Yamaha YZF-R1. At this point The terms “R1S” and “R1M” who protected the paperwork. According to what seems logical to us it is about two versions Yamaha speeders with different performance and components.

Women on Motorcycles: Silencing the Naysayers

Image
Wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle or desiring to upgrade to a bigger and better bike sound like easy choices to make. But what if you're discouraged from doing so from those closest to you (or not so close). Or what if you don't believe that you can. Well I can relate. I had dreamed of riding a motorcycle since I was 20 years old. I didn't get my license until I was 29 years old. One of the main factors that contributed to this was the response I received from my friends and family when I expressed my interest in doing so. They would tell me that it was dangerous or that I was crazy! Others would express concern at my small stature and cruelly mock that I would need to touch the ground if I was to ride a motorbike. There were even the select few that would suggest that females could not to ride motorcycles! Eventually, it wore my enthusiasm and excitement down. I started to believe that I could not do it and that I was not capable of even learning how to ride. So I ...

BMW S1000RR - One of the Top Ten Fastest Motorbike

Image
If you are a motorcycle enthusiast, you will surely love this motorcycle with all its awesome features. I have personally loved this bike for it performance and durability. I have never seen a motorcycle as great as this one and I am sure that it can be one of the best motorcycles ever. The stability and performance is at par and its over all appearance is simply stunning and breath-taking. The size of the task BMW undertook 8 years ago to build a new, full-on superbike is difficult to exaggerate. For years, Japanese motorbikes such as the Honda Fireblade, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Yamaha R1 and Kawasaki ZX-10R have all displayed the excellence of Japanese motoring and engineering and these will also be featured in our top 10 fastest motorbike countdown. Here are some for specifications for the BMW S1000RR: Price/on sale: £13,655/Current 2012 range Engine: 999cc Power/torque: 190bhp at 13,000rpm/83lb ft at 9,750rpm Top speed: 190mph (est) Engine size: 999cc Power: 193bhp T...

The World's Fastest Motorbikes

Image
Hang onto your hats; we're going for a ride. The Superbike sector which was created during the seventies, would allow mere mortals such as you and I to ride something akin to the machines that our heroes use on the track. Of course we all ride sensibly, but to have that spare capacity in hand is something wonderful. Nobody's had this much power between their legs since Marilyn Monroe died. I can hear you all screaming 'Hayabusa', but here are a few others that turn heads (quickly). To avoid favouritism, I've listed them in alphabetical order. You can make up your own mind. Aprilia RSV1000R The V-twin power unit is going to generate 143 HP and push you up to 175mph if you're that way inclined. Experience in top class racing has allowed designers to come up with a frame that weighs in at less than 10,000 grams. Introduced in 1998 this bike is not only quick, but has the looks to go with it. BMW K1200S If I said 'Zero to Sixty mph in 2.8 seconds'...

2015 Aprilia Caponord 1200

Image
Light and Crispy, Like a Biscotti Returning to the US after a multi-year hiatus, the latest generation of Aprilia’s Caponord 1200 is back. The revised Caponord graces American shores as a 2015 model, having made its debut a year earlier in the Europe (where Aprilia never stopped selling the previous version). The American-only version of the Capo is the kitted out Travel Pack version, which includes integrated saddlebags (easily fits a Shoei RF-1200), centerstand, cruise control (third gear and higher), hand guards and a manually-adjustable windscreen. It’s a turn-key tourer, ready from day one with a 690-watt generator to power your accessories, including an underseat USB port (used in conjunction with the AMPS system, more on that later). Accessories like the top case, pillion saddle and tank bags are sold separately. The non-travel-pack version sold in Europe will not be available here in the States, but they can get the add-ons we have if they want them. The secondary dashboard/s...

the New Honda VFR1200F Revolutionise Motorcycle Riding

Image
The motorcycle market had all become a bit stale and predictable over the last twelve months. New models were released without a great deal of modifications being made, old models were tweaked to make them seem more appealing and new concept models that actually looked very promising on paper were scrapped. Despite all of this, Honda has managed to come through for the attention starved fans with the release of the new Honda VFR1200F, which had its first outing at the Intermot motor show in Cologne in October of 2008 as a rather bizarre and confusing mould. However, just over twelve months on from that motor show the Japanese manufacturer has managed to turn that model into a new Honda V4 motorcycle that is set to take the world by storm. The new Honda V4 was shrouded in secrecy from the very beginning, with many claiming that it was to be a new V4 style superbike to rival the Aprilia V4 that had just been released. The configuration of a V engine has certain benefits to it,...

The Yamaha EF1000is Vs. The Yamaha EF2000is

Image
All over the world, there are several areas which continue to experience blackouts. These would hinder people from actually carrying out rather important tasks. After all, electricity is something considered to be quite essential in the modern world. In such cases, you'd want to avail of a backup power supply that can give you some temporary relief. Of course, you still need to keep in mind that it can be quite difficult to find the best product for such an inconvenience, since there are a lot of power supply devices to choose from. Yet, if you want to have something that's quite handy and can be taken with you wherever you go, whether it's in the house or out camping in the great outdoors, you should look into portable generator reviews. As of the moment, there are two products from Yamaha which are quite popular with consumers and we will be looking into both the Yamaha EF1000is and the Yamaha EF2000is. EF1000is This is considered to be one of the most popular solu...

The Stunning Ducati 1098S

Image
The 2008 Ducati 1098S is a thing of beauty. From Italy, the land of Ferrari and Lamborghini, comes the fastest v-twin superbike in production today, the Ducati 1098S. The 1098S is the result of when form and function blend together in a truly artistic and powerful way. The 1098S was developed after years of superbike racing and thousands of miles of on-road testing. Right out of the box it's hard to find a better all-around motorcycle for the streets and highways wherever you might ride. The Ducati 1098S features the Testastretta Evolucione engine, a fuel injected, two cylinder, 4-stroke motor that produces a whopping 160 horsepower @ 9750 rpm, and 90.4 foot pounds of torque @ 8000 rpm, it's a smooth sounding wicked motor with power to burn. This motorcycle is put together so well and my hat is off to Ducati. Producing such a masterpiece is no small feat of engineering, and wrapping that slick body around such a monster of a motor just plain worked so well. In my humble op...

Yamaha R1 VS R6

Image
Let me start with the introduction of R1. Comparing Two Super Bikes:  R1 can storm from not to 100 km/hr. in less than 3 seconds and go about a top speed of 300 km/hr. This level of performance is impossible to measure on urban roads. So, we were on a race track to get the true feel of the 'World's Super Bike Race' winner. Those of you who know super bikes might be a little disappointed 2012 version of this bike because it looks exactly like its previous models apart from color changes. But if you look closer, there are a couple of detail changes. The overall shape of the bike remains the same but it has a big nose with bigger L.E.D lights to give an attractive headlight look. It's more aerodynamic too. This bike has basically the same engine that it had last year. Asking about the new thing, it has an updated E.C.U (Engine Control Unit). It may be an inline four-cylinder engine but what sets it apart from other inline four-cylinders is the way it makes it pow...

Aprilia RSV1000R vs Ducati 1098S

Image
Since the inception of the Superbike World Championship, Twin-cylinder motorcycles have claimed 16 of 20 series titles, including fourteen by Ducati alone. Many a mortal man has been transformed into a legend thanks in part to the rider-friendly nature inherent with sporting Twins. Fogarty, Roche, Bayliss and Toseland all won championships on either the 916 or 999 platforms and starting in 2008 the new 1098 will fly the tri-color in competition for the boys of Bologna. After watching its cross country rival enjoy a great deal of success with these machines, Aprilia decided to follow suit and entered the fray with a sporting Twin of its own in 1998 - and a rivalry was born. Unfortunately, despite the best effort of riders like Troy Corser, Regis Laconi and Noriyuki Haga, racing success did not come easy for the company from Noale. Aprilia has enjoyed a successful run on the sales floor and in the eyes of journalists around the world, but those accomplishments did not correlate to sim...
