It was a rainy night in Milan, but that in no way dampened the mood at Yamaha, which trotted out MotoGP star Valentino Rossi to ride the long-awaited 2015 YZF-R1 onto stage at the big launch party held the night before the EICMA motorcycle show opened. And what an impressive bike this new R1 appears to be, a seriously sporty new Yamaha flagship that goes on sale in February/March priced at $16,490. For that sum, you’ll be getting a potent and highly capable motorcycle that can throw down some fast laps at your local track day and then be ridden home. YAMAHA INTRODUCES NEW 2015 MODELS The 2015 Yamaha FZ-07 might well be a stunter’s dream. Not that I’m a stunter of course; I barely even know how to wheelie. But I’m pretty sure this bike wants to teach me. With a tiny 1,400 mm wheelbase and a compact centre of gravity the FZ-07 thinks little of hiking the front wheel off the deck – the rear wheel, too if you squeeze those wave-rotor brakes in just the right way. Bikes like this, labelled “roadsters” by manufacturers and “naked sportbikes” by people like me, have been around for a while now. Simplistically, they’re a response to the modern streetfighter movement – a customization craze that saw riders transform race-replica sportbikes into aggressive, naked brutes. In early June, we were delighted to see the EBR 1190SX, a naked streetfighter version of the EBR 1190RX superbike, break cover. Although we knew the bike was in the works, we didn’t know much about the SX at the time. Now, though, Erik Buell Racing has released some information for the bike. Most notable: The 1190SX goes on sale this month, priced at $16,995. What’s more, it will be available in three colors: Frost Bite White, Galactic Black, or Racing Red. As expected, the 1190 SX is based on the chassis of the EBR 1190RX superbike, which means it has the same twin-spar fuel-in-frame setup. Rake and trail, as well as wheelbase, are unchanged. A new upper triple clamp accommodates a tubular handlebar for a more upright riding position. Yamaha will be launching the R15 Version 3.0 later this year and considering the R15 is almost perfect in what it offers currently, what can we expect in the next update to Yamaha’s flagship bike in India? A close look at the Yamaha R125 (pictured here) reveals as to what can be expected from the 2015 Yamaha R15. In fact the R125 has often pointed to where the R15 will head, case in point being the R15 Version 2.0 which like the R125 draws heavy styling inspiration at the rear from the R6. Yamaha recently gave the R125 a major update and we expect most of the changes to feature on the new R15 as well. On the styling front, one can expect minor changes to the design of the Yamaha R15 V3 as the bike is already a massive head turner. Yamaha might re-design the front headlights with a central air intake for a sportier appearance. Event may draw 7,000 The BMW Motorcycle Owners of America has booked a rally in Billings for July 23-25 next year that is expected to bring up to $5 million to town. The international BMW organization has about 35,000 North American members and expects about 7,000 visitors for the 2015 rally. About half the group is expected to spend four nights in hotels and motels, which would be a $2.7 million boost to the local economy just from lodging. The other half of the group will camp on the MetraPark grounds. "It's satisfying from time to time to be reminded through the eyes of our guests just how desirable Billings is," said Chamber president and chief executive John Brewer. The announcement was made over Skype by Bob Aldridge, executive director of the BMW Motorcycle Owners Association, who spoke from the group's headquarters near Kansas City, Kan. 2015 Honda CB300F First Look First Look: 2015 Honda CB300F It has been a while since Honda has offered a small displacement naked upright sport bike, and the new 2015 Honda CB300F ends that drought. Heavily based on the CBR300R faired sport bike, with which it shares a chassis, engine, and many body parts (though sans fairing), the 2015 Honda CB300F brings the price down to $3999. Powered by a liquid-cooled 286cc DOHC single-cylinder motor with roots in Moto3 racing, the CB300F weighs only 348 pounds and functions as a little brother to the CB500F twin, with which it shares considerable styling cues.
