Yamaha 1200ZZ Super Tenere

Fuel economy is where you would expect for a big adventure bike, it seems to easily get 16 to 17 KPL in serious dirt situations and if ridden on highways for fuel economy I believe 19 to 23 KPL is very achievable, the km per litre read-out on the dashboard does often get into the 24 km plus per litre readings, but I have never followed through for long enough to get the best out of it. I'm sure in the hands of a really sensible and patient rider the bike would be capable of awesome KPL readings. The bike was a bit of a surprise package because even though it is in the BMW 1200GS class, it still felt surprisingly light and nimble to throw around in reasonably tight off-road situations, this is obviously because Yamaha have put a lot of thought into having a low centre of gravity. On our long-term demo XT1200, all we have done to improve the ergonomics is to remove the foot peg rubbers which unveals an absolutely top quality set of off-road foot pegs that are not only strong b...

The Honda VF750F

Image
The Honda VF750F Honda has always been at the cutting edge of motorcycle design. Ever since the launch of the ground breaking CB750 in 1969, Honda have often led the way in motorcycle innovation. 1983 saw the launch of the sports 750 F with its radical V4 engine which has resulted in its domination of this particular niche today. Under had already produced the VF750S, a cruiser in 1982, but it was the 750 F that captured the bike riding fraternity's imagination. What was revolutionary about this machine was its liquid cooled 90° V4 engine which produced what was then an astonishing 86 bhp. This meant that the bike covered a standing quarter quicker than all its rivals, and also that Honda had managed to produce a new V4 engine that lived up to all the theories by producing a quite superb mid range. And that was just the engine. A lot of research and development had been put into the half fairing, which gave the rider a remarkable amount of protection, and the all round d...

All New KTM 350 SXF

Image
All New KTM 350 SXF There have been many rumors going around that the Austrian-based company, KTM, has been testing out a new 350cc motocross weapon. Well for once, the rumors were true, and KTM recently announced it like they weren't hiding anything. The reason they are building a 350cc production bike is because they wanted a bike that had the power close to a 450cc motocross bike, but the weight and handling to that of a 250F. The 2011 350 SXF is an all new bike from the ground up. It has a new 350cc engine, a new frame, fuel-injection, and new-to-KTM linkage rear-suspension! The bike also has electric start for those lazy riders out there. It also seems to have a spot to put a kick starter, but there isn't one currently on the bike. It is said to be released to the public this summer (2010). The price may be high, but it will most likely be worth it for the amount of work KTM has put into this bike. This project-bike-no-more has been in the works since ...

Yamaha FZ6 - First Impressions

Image
I purchased my very first Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle 3 weeks back. It is a brand new 2008. Since then, I've been able to do some riding and find out what this bike has got. Some background... I've owned two Yamaha bikes prior to purchasing one. They were both Yamaha R6 sport bikes. These R6s were both FAST... VERY fast. And, wouldn't you know, I like to go fast. This issue was, though, that they were not at all comfortable for longer trips. You sit laying over the gas tank with hands and arms at an strange angle when holding onto the handlebars. One of the criteria I set forth when contemplating a new motorcycle, and eventually the Yamaha FZ6, was comfort. The other was power and speed. What I encountered in the FZ6 was a much more straight up riding position (FAR more comfortable for both rider and passenger) and a spunky R6 motor. Yamaha FZ6 One major distinction, other than the two points I mentioned above, is that the Yamaha FZ6 lacks fairings on the sides to co...
