2015 new Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0
Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 Overview
Naked bikes have always been a popular option for riders who like to flaunt their muscle on the streets rather than the racetrack. Globally naked bikes have been riding a crest of popularity and India is no exception either. The Yamaha FZ-S has been precisely that, a slickly designed product with just the right amount of muscle for the discerning rider looking for something in the 150-200 cc 2 wheeler market segment. Yamaha has recently updated the model and come up with an entirely new product aptly called as the Yamaha FZ S-FI. The chunky looking tank, aggressive side profile stepped seat etc. are still very much there but have been subtly redesigned while still borrowing elements from the model is replaces. This ensures that the bike’s look still reaches out to the hooligan within all of us.
Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 Engine & Transmission
The older 153 cc SOHC 4 stroke air cooled engine has been junked in favour of a newer albeit smaller 149 cc fuel injected ‘Blue Core’ engine. This newly developed engine addresses poor fuel economy complaints by owners of the previous generation FZ-S and thus ends up with reduced power and torque figures owing to a drop in cubic capacity. The new engine runs a bore X stroke ratio of 57.3 X 57.9 mm with a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and makes peak power of 13.1 Bhp @ 8,000 rpm and peak torque of 12.8 NM @ 6,000 rpm. What is interesting to note about this is that the bore has been reduced compared to the earlier engine while retaining the same stroke length which explains the drop in cubic capacity. The engine also boasts lighter internal components thus reducing frictional losses and revving higher while also delivering better fuel economy. Mated to that is a slick shifting 5 speed gearbox with an optimal gear ratio that helps balance out both power and fuel economy . The power and torque figures ensure that you will be able to cruise the highways at a comfortable 90-100 kmph allday long with stressing the engine too much.
Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 Mileage
The FZ S- FI offers surprisingly decent fuel economy despite being such fun to ride. The average fuel economy of 55 kmpl helps ensure that college kids will still be able to have some spending money left over in their pockets despite fuel expenses.
Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 Performance and Handling
The FZ-S was a proven performer and had been a favourite among a wide range of consumers so far and the FZ S FI is no exception. The midship exhaust is nice and grunty and allows the engine to run with as little unnecessary back pressure as possible. This is also good for performance and helps the bike run through the gears quickly. Get onto the rider’s seat and the sculpted fuel tank helps anchor your knees firmly in place, all the more better for blasting through the corners faster.
The monoshock suspension at the rear mated to the telescopic front offers excellent damping and is a tad stiffly setup which can be both equally good or bad depending on how you ride. On the other side of 90 kmph, that setup is magic though and helps keep the bike firmly in its lane. Helping out of course are excellent MRF tyres with the rear 140/60 shouldering more than its share to responsibility to keep things on an even keel. The FZ S- FI also benefits from a lighter frame that reduces kerb weight by around 3 kgs bringing it to 132 Kgs. This along with the slightly shortened wheelbase helps with the cornering ability of the bike and makes it even more flickable in city traffic too.
